   Jeffrey Epstein, convicted sex offender and billionaire financier, is due in a Manhattan federal court today after being arrested this past Saturday. He is now facing charges (which he thought had been voided in his plea deal years ago) in relation to his previous conviction of soliciting prostitution from younger aged women.

   Attorney David Boies reportedly told Fox News this past Sunday that Epstein will be charged with sex trafficking and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking. The wealthy hedge fund manager should also be expecting to face additional indictments. Boies has attributed the arrest to the public corruption unit and the sex trafficking unit it New York who worked the investigation.

   According to Boies, Epstein was picked up at a New York airport after his fight landed from Paris. He was quickly taken into federal custody and is now being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan (according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website).  In his interview, Boies also told Fox News,

    “This is an important first step.  Hopefully prosecutors will focus on some of his [Epstein’s] co-conspirators going forward.”

   Among Epstein’s many powerful friends is President Bill Clinton, Britain’s Prince Andrew and President Trump. It may be of no surprise to some that evidence (obtained by Fox News in 2016) revealed Clinton took at least 26 trips flying aboard Epstein’s private jet. The former President supposedly even abandoned his Secret Service detail on some of these expeditions.  Records also revealed that Trump flew on the jet at LEAST once. Trump is quoted by Tim O’Brien, the President’s own biographer, in an excerpt from a 2002 profile in New York Magazine, saying,

    “I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with.  It is even said that he liked beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”

   Subsequently, Trump’s legal team has refuted the two were even friends. Furthermore, court documents filed by attorney Bradley Edwards, who is an attorney for many of Epstein’s alleged victims, reveals Trump banned Epstein from his Mar-a-Lago estate“because Epstein sexually assaulted an under aged girl at the club.” This is according to court documents filed by Edwards, however there has been no confirmation by President Trump or Mar-a-Lago as to the validity of the claim.
  
   Epstein fortunately dodged a possible life sentence by pleading guilty to lesser state underage prostitution charge, previously thought to have been kept secret. His arrest was of no surprise once the plea deal was viewed more closely and disputed in a Florida federal court. His previous conviction only landed him 13 months in jail in addition to registering as a sex offender and orders to financially compensate his then underage victims.

   In February, the White House said that it was “looking into” the handling of Epstein’s plea deal which was overseen by Alexander Acosta. Acosta was a Miami U.S. Attorney at the time but is now President Trump’s labor secretary. Acosta unequivocally maintains that the plea deal was fitting as per the circumstances at the time.

   U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra of Florida has to decide if the plea deal should have been consulted with the victims as according to federal law. The decision will determine if the previous non-prosecution agreement is valid or should be voided. According to recently filed court papers, Federal prosecutors insist Epstein’s deal must stand. Prosecutors indicated in the filed papers that they do acknowledge that the failure to consult victims“fell short of the government’s dedication to serve victims to the best of its ability” and that prosecutors “should have communicated with the victims in a straightforward and transparent way.”

   Also in the filing, prosecutors said, “The past cannot be undone; the government committed itself to the NPA, and the parties have not disputed that Epstein complied with its provisions." The victims in the Florida case have until Monday to respond to the Justice Department’s filing.

   An article written by PBS notes,

     “According to court records in Florida, authorities say at least 40 underage girls were brought into Epstein’s Palm Beach mansion for what turned into sexual encounters after female fixers looked for suitable girls locally and in Eastern Europe and other parts of the world. Some girls were also allegedly brought to Epstein’s homes in New York City, New Mexico and a private Caribbean island, according to court documents.” 

   U.S. Senator Ben Sasse announced in a statement this past Saturday which called for Epstein to be held without bail while his trial is pending.

    “This monster received a pathetically soft sentence last time and his victims deserve nothing less than justice,” Sasse said in the statement. “Justice doesn’t depend on the size of your bank account.”

   As more information about the arrest continues to be made aware to the public, there is little doubt that Epstein will have much explaining to do as he defends himself against these damning charges. We will keep you posted.
