Army Conducting Secret Operation Around D.C.

On July 22, Bloomberg published an article stating that the Pentagon revealed some details about a secret Army mission that has active duty and reserve soldiers as well as Black Hawk helicopters flying over Washington D.C.

This classified operation was disclosed to Congress when the Department of Defense requested approval of an extra $1.5 million for aircraft maintenance, air crews, and travel to help an "emerging classified flight mission."

The Defense Department said,

"Without additional funding, the Army will not be able to perform this classified mission. Soldiers from assault helicopter maintenance units will be supporting the mission with 10 UH-60s and maintenance capabilities for four months."

The funding request also asks for a "Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility", which would be housed at Davison Army Airfield at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Bloomberg reported that Army spokesman Wayne Hall declined comment on what the mission is about as well as what parts of the armed forces are participating.

The only information Hall would divulge is that the operation began towards the beginning of the fiscal year, which started October 1, 2019 and that the length of the mission is yet to be determined.
